Under HUD’s LEP Guidance, assisted housing providers have an obligation to inform people who may be limited English proficient that free language assistance is available. Providers of federally assisted housing and services must also reach out to public service organizations notifying them that this free language assistance is available.
Here is a suggested statement that assisted housing providers might wish to use on their correspondence, website, marketing material, and other solicitations:
We provide communication services for people with disabilities and language assistance to help you communicate effectively with us in your preferred language at no cost.
This statement is available in 17 non-English languages to help housing providers meet this obligation.
